Proof of Alcohol Lab Report Sample
Proof of Alcohol Lab Report Paper Proof of the Alcohol Solution: (Percent of Alcohol Based on Volume) (2) = Proof of the Alcohol Solution = (17. 6 96) (2) = 35. 2 Conclusion The experiment was very successful. The experiment went exactly as planned in all three parts. In part I and II of the lab, density of ethanol and water was calculated. The density of water was . 907 g/ml and the density of ethanol was . 724 g/ml. Since the density of ethanol is less than the density of water, it could be predicted that the ethanol would float on top of the water solution when chemically separated. For part Ill of the experiment, ethanol was mixed with an known water solution. Ethanol is miscible with water so Nasal, ethyl ether, and sodium acetate were added to chemically separate the alcohol from the rest of the unknown solution. The divided solution was then put into a separators funnel, and the water part of the solution was drained. This can be done because the ethanol is a clear color and the water was yellowish. The ethanol having a lower density, floated on top of the yellow water layer, so there was a clear line where the two divided. The water layer was drained from the solution leaving just the ethanol in the separators funnel. Using the drained water layer al of the calculations above could be made. The measurements of density and water were off. The known density of water is 1. 00 g/ml not . 907 g/ml and the known density of ethanol is . 789 g/ ml not . 724 g/ml. These errors were made because the mass scale was not calibrated or because a slight error was made reading the volume. It is also likely that an error was made when draining the water layer. It is impossible to tell exactly where the solution switches from water to ethanol, so some ethanol probably got drained with the water layer. This would slightly change the volume ND mass of the water layer. However, these mistakes were expected to happen and the lab was still very successful. Every step of the lab went as expected, and even if the numbers are a little incorrect they are very close to what they should be. Questions Using the mass percent of my experiment, 30. 4 %, the theoretical density of my solution would be 0. 940 g/ml. The density of the unknown that was calculated based on volume and mass was 0. 9326 g/ml. To find the percent error, subtract the theoretical density from the actual density, divide by the theoretical density, and the multiply the entire thing by 100.

Wolf on Violence Essay Example
Wolf on Violence Essay Example Wolf on Violence Essay Wolf on Violence Essay In her book, The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used against Women, Naomi Wolf dares to go where no woman would dare go ââ¬â the inner recesses of their own minds.à It is here that Wolf a journalist by profession, has discovered something rather shocking.à Women are victims of violence.à But this kind of violence is not inflicted by society, let alone men.à Rather, it is the women themselves who are inflicting this violence on their own persons.à One must now wonder why would women want to do that.à Wolfââ¬â¢s answer is in pursuit of beauty.à This is summed up by an unidentified insider from a pharmaceutical firm that manufactures beauty products and the like,ââ¬Å"Women take drugs in order to be seen as feminine.à The feminine womanâ⬠¦is slim, passive, deferential to men and does not exhibit emotions such as anger, frustration or assertiveness.â⬠(quoted in Wolf, p. 268) It can be inferred from Wolfââ¬â¢s thesis is that women are inherently masochistic, born to bear and endure pain and in its absence, would look for it and probably ask for more.à Ironically, in this day and age when women have asserted their right and freedom, they are still hurting themselves and they are doing it by trying to become and stay beautiful.à The way Wolf and other feminists see it, these women are subliminally submitting themselves to the will of men unwittingly.à ââ¬Å"Conventional wisdom,â⬠as dictated by men states that women need to be attractive as a way of building up her self-esteem but the feminist view maintains this submission to menââ¬â¢s standards rather than let a woman be herself, free to be who she is and to live her life the way she wants to. One example given in Wolfââ¬â¢s book is breast augmentation.à There are women with small breasts who feel they are not ââ¬Å"womanâ⬠enough and hence the need to make them larger and fuller.à They got this idea from pornographic materials that cater particularly to menââ¬â¢s desires (Wolf, 2002, pp. 246-248).à The ââ¬Å"violenceâ⬠here is that breast augmentation is a surgical procedure which entails going under the knife in order to perform the procedure where plastic surgeons insert silicone implants to enhance to shape and form of the breast and to those who have gone through this, if it is not painful, it can be discomforting which belies advertisements in print and television that shows women with enhanced breasts looking happy and satisfied.à This, according to the feminists, is a big lie.à This does not hide the fact that violence has been committed against women.à Besides breast augmentation, there is also rhinoplasty or ââ¬Å"nose jobs,â ⬠changing shapes of eyes by Asian women to look more Caucasian and liposuction.à All these procedures require going under the knife and women are thereby allowing violence to be inflicted upon themselves. In conclusion, Wolfââ¬â¢s point is that beauty is a myth. Women are not beautifying themselves for their own sake but to satisfy menââ¬â¢s desires.à It would be very easy and tempting to agree.à The researcher wishes to remind or caution those who read Wolfââ¬â¢s work that this is seen from a feminist view and could probably be an opinion of the author herself. Yet no one can deny that she presents a very strong case and if it were to be implemented, it would be a daunting task as the vanity part of a womanââ¬â¢s psyche will continue to push her to enhance her looks and has a ââ¬Å"defense mechanismâ⬠that allows her to overcome the fear of experiencing pain when she goes through any form of cosmetic surgery. Similarities Between Judaism And Christianity Religion Essay
Similarities Between Judaism And Christianity Religion Essay The creation of the universe still remains a mystery to many of us. Almost all mankind is obsessed with trying to discover how the creation of everything that exists came about. Some are convinced about the divine existence of God while others are atheist. The religious people are also faced with many differences and disagreement about the existence and the nature of the real God. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast two specific characteristics that are evident in Christianity and Judaism. As much as there are differences between the two religious groupings, there are also similarities between them. This is because, Christianity emerged and protested from Judaism, but it is not a continuation of Judaism as some people would suppose it to .Therefore, there are various characteristics that makes the two different. The first characteristic is how they define sin and the second is how they define atonement and religious human intercession. Similarities Between Judaism and Christianity Both religions define sin as rebellion, and God has made his will to be known to all people through His word. Acting contrary to this set will against God is a sin. Although Wyschogrod states that Judaism doesnt take the consequences of sin seriously, Plantinga feels Christians should go back to their original religion so that they can understand the consequences of sin. Therefore, both believe that sin has its consequences. God is all powerful and supreme, the only thing he can do is to allow people to sin but he limits the freedom. One of the reasons for allowing the people to sin is so as He can demonstrate his will and achieve his objectives; which could be to demonstrate his love since his lover supersedes his hatred. Therefore both religions believe that God is a God of mercy. God has provided atonement in order to reconcile all his people with him. This shows that whenever people are engaged in sin and have a deep repentance for it, there is a way out for both religions. This cleanses and erases all the sins and the makes man right with God. They both believe that in order to be forgiven, faith must be incorporated with the atonement. Since there is a continuous behavior of rebellion, both religions believe that they live under two principles which include being loyal to God and being rebellious. Therefore, sin is a continuous process and cannot be avoided by any human being.Because of this repentance must be done regularly. Differences in Judaism and Christianity In regard to Sin, Christianitys center of attention is found on The Original Sin which is the sin that committed by Adam and Eve while they were in the Garden of Eden and continues on from that generation to this generation we are living today .While Judaisms center of attention on Sin which means the continuous sins committed after a person is born, thus proving that at birth a person is with no sin. Therefore, according to Judaism, repentance is done for disobedience done either intentionally or unintentionally after the person is born while for Christianity, repentance is done for an entire persons life since his birth even to the extend of repenting the sins of a former generation. While reviewing the Holy Bible in Genesis chapter 3, the two religions interpret this differently. According to the Christian perspective, when Adam and Eve sinned, the glory of God in them was taken away, thus making the whole creation perverted. While in Judaism, when Adam and Eve sinned, God made them to suffer the consequences by only chasing them out of the Garden of Eden but never meant that sin will follow their forthcoming generation. Christianitys element of redemption that is meant to return the glory of God which was lost after Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden is only through Jesus Christ who is claimed to be God in the flesh and a part of the Holy trinity, cleanses the sins of the whole world for those who accept this redemption. The Judaism element of redemption is done through is through prayer which cleanses the sin impartially, and full cleansing is done after they ask for forgiveness from the people. According to Judaism Jesus was just a good man and was not reincarnation of God into mankind, he has no powers to save souls as Christianity perceives and believes it to be, and he never resurrected from the dead. Since piece has never reigned in this world. Judaism has never approved Jesus as the Prince of Peace and the Messiah. They claim that the Prince of Peace shall rule the world later and peace shall dominate this whole world. But Christianity believes Jesus as the Prince of peace and the promised Messiah and all them that accept this divinity have peace in their minds and souls. Furthermore, Judaism continues to state that God is one. God cannot be made of three parts which are termed as the Holy trinity, even though Christianity claims it to be a mystery. They claim that this can be compared to pagans who worship many god and that the capacity of claiming that God is in three parts diminishes the preeminence of his power. Therefore, it has no room for Jesus having a position of being God the Son. This is opposed by Christianity since according to the Bible in the Book of John 1:1, 14 which claims that In the beginning there was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God. The word became flesh and dwelt among us in this world. As much as there are differences and similarities, only time can tell since Christianity is based on faith. There is no religion that can be placed above the other. Its hard for worshipers also to judge themselves since they can not identify and accept easily their shortcomings since it may be to their disadvantage. Therefore, judgment is left to God alone.

The Future is here :: essays papers
The Future is here The idea of being able to choose the gender of a child has not always been around. This controversy did not come about until recently because now we have the technology to perform this act of sex determination. Some say that we should be able to choose the gender of our children. However, other people think that we shouldnââ¬â¢t be able to because they say that it is experimenting with nature. Also, that it is unnatural. I used to think the way of the second viewpoint, but not anymore. There is absolutely nothing wrong with couples being able to choose whether they want to have a baby girl or a boy. According to an article in Newsweek called The Brave New World of Sex Selection by Thomas Hayden, this is possible. The article states how it is done. To do this, scientists measure DNA in sperm cells and pass the millions of them through a tiny tube in a single file. They then separate the ââ¬Å"girl spermâ⬠from the ââ¬Å"boy spermâ⬠. They can tell the difference because ââ¬Å"girl spermâ⬠has more DNA. The separated sperm cells are then used, one or the other, to impregnate a woman to have a girl or a boy. In a study, fifteen out of seventeen women with the ââ¬Å"girl spermâ⬠had girls. Getting the Girl by Lisa Bellkin, an article in the New York Times Magazine, states a 93% success rate. Some mothers might only want a girl when others might want a boy. If a couple has a strong opinion that one sex is easier to raise over the other, such as a boy, they might not want the hardship of trying to raise a girl. A family could also want a boy to carry on the family name. In my opinion, I would go through this process to have a girl. I think that since obviously I am a girl, I could do a better job of raising a girl than a boy. A parent could think that they know more about one sex than the other and choose to raise that sex. Another reason that I think people should be able to choose the gender of their child is because if you already have three boys in your house, it could be time for a change.

An Analytical Summary
Se Habla Espanol By Tanya Barrientos An Analytical Summary Tre A. Williams Kimberly Muirhead English 115 11/14/2012 Tanya Maria Barrientos, a journalist by profession and an upcoming author is Guatemalan by birth. However she has been living in America for almost fifty years after coming from her native country at the age of three. The essay ââ¬ËSe Habla Espanolââ¬â¢ is a poignant depiction of the search for her misplaced identity that she desperately tried to forget in her formative years. Her aversion towards her own ethnicity can be summarized by this quote of hers, ââ¬Å"when I was sixteen, I told my father how much I hated being called Mexican-not only because I wasn't, but also because the word was hurled as an insultâ⬠(Page 59). The most important point of the essay is the difficulty the immigrants face while growing up in a land, which is not their by birth as how they are inherently misfit in the society, yet they desperately want to merge into it by forgetting t heir language and ignoring their last names.Barrientos starts the essay the quite aptly by depicting her child hood days as how her parents consciously forgot their own culture to assimilate their kids in the alien ââ¬Ëgringoââ¬â¢ culture. Although they themselves talked to each other in Spanish, yet they talked to their kids in English, maintain the American culture within the house and kept their kids as far away as possible from other Latin Americans and Latin American Culture. The result was dark skinned kids who consider themselves white and hate to be called Latin American or Mexican.Barrientosââ¬â¢ mental state in her growing years can be ascertained by these words, ââ¬Å"I enjoyed looking into the faces of Latino store clerks and waitresses and, yes, even our maid, and saying ââ¬Ëyo no hablo espanolââ¬â¢. It made me feel superior. It made me feel American. It made me feel whiteâ⬠(Page 58). The situation completely changed when Barrientos reached her 20à ¢â¬â¢s. Suddenly the societal conditions changed and the country woke up to recognize various cultures and ethnicities that made the United States of America that we know today. The culture baggage was no longer considered a baggage now and in fact it gave uniqueness to the immigrants. Now, Barrientos tries to learn Spanish and also desperately tries to search her lost identity while learning Spanish. However, now the unfortunate thing is that in spite of trying hard in learning Spanish, she is still managed to understand and haltingly speak Spanish that makes her stick out in her own community and she can never gel completely within her own community. The purpose of Barrientosââ¬â¢ writing clearly indicates the experience, the second generation immigrants feel, behave and communicate in the modern American society. She explains the experience of her life and analyzes the difficulties she had to endure throughout her life. Her audience primarily is young and most of them are not white Americans like her. The exceptional thing about Barrientosââ¬â¢ essay is that she has written it in a very exceptional, lucid and easy to understand English. Thus, Se Habla Espanol is an excellent essay, which depicts and analyzes a modern day issue, which has established as a major phenomenon in todayââ¬â¢s world. Moreover, it is very much evident in America because it has always been a melting pot of varied cultures belonging to all over the world. References Create. (2001). ENC 1101. Corinthian.
